Slow cookers, and good recepees

Hi all,

does anyone have a slow cooker? And if so, what are your favourite healthy recepees you cook in it? I will get one today, and I believe it can help me eat healthier because, rather than oven fries and breaded chicken or scampi, I can cook something like veg and chicken etc. So, what are your favourite recepees, and do you have any other tips concerning slow cookers? Also, how do you make the food taste interesting? How do you add a sauce/gravy or just a taste so it doesn't taste plain? I'm really looking forward to your input on this.

Toss in egg noddles and simmar. While egg nodddles cook and mushroom soup is in slow cooker while noodles cooking, turn on high.

Even an inexpensive rump roast can do well in a slow cooker, proving that not all statements about a cheap piece of ass are true. Just don't forget to use the juice, especially if you cook it for 12 to 14 hours like you might with the above-mentioned cheap roasts.

Well I don't want to make a roast yet because I haven't learned that. Any easier, healthier recepees you can recommend?

Has anyone ever done Risotto in a slow cooker? And if so, what sauce/seasoning did you use?

Nothing easier than a roast to be honest though if you don't actually like roast that's a fair issue. However you saying you don't want to do one because you want something easier, as far as I know there's nothing easier or more flexible:
Drop it in there with water, cut up and put in some potatos, carrots and any other firm vegetable you want if you want, and to thicken the juice up, partway through mix in the occasional teaspoon or tablespoon of flour.
Cook it forever and the meat will be real tender.

I love cooking roasts in the slow cooker. I put in potatoes carrots onions in there with it and it comes out so tasty. I also cook pulled pork or meatballs in there a lot as well. Going to try that taco soup that sounds really good.

My favorite thing to do in the crockpot is chili. Here's my recipe.

1 lb. ground Beef or turkey (I prefer turkey)
1 can red kidney beans (I tried white kidney beans awhile back and they were okay, but they don't smell nearly as good)
1 can tomato sauce
1 stalk celery, chopped
1 can corn
6-8 mushrooms, chopped
1 small or 1/2 large onion, chopped
1/2 green pepper
1-1/2 tsp. cuman
1-1/2 tsp. Italian seasoning
1 tsp chili powder
Pepper to taste
Other spices if you'd like.

Put all ingredients in crockpot (mine is 3qt, I think, and it's very very ful!). Make sure to stir thoroughly, and cook on low for 8-9 hours. If you can stir again midway through the cooking process; if not, stir at the end.

Enjoy!

That chili sounds awesome! Yummy! Do you cook the ground turkey first and then put it in the slow cooker?
I'm sorry, i'm not the greatest cook.

Love my crock pot. Got it for Christmas and have been having fun experimenting with it ever since. Made delicious chicken and dumplings, tasty pot roast, and a really nice dish featuring pork and apple slices. Mmm. For the IPhone users out there, the official Crock Pot app is free and fairly accessible with VO. I've also found AllRecipes.com to be a good source of meal ideas.

Turkey drumsticks are great. Just add gravy mix, water, and I actually cook a whole sweet potato with it. Gives it a great flavor. Made up the recipe myself but I am sure there is one out there. the crockpot lid can still fit okay with the bone sticking up some. Ham is great too. Just get a piece of ham small enough and put pineapple in the pot too with the pineapple juice and a little water.
